ALEX GAULT - MAG SPORT RACING 2007 - SILVERSTONE - MARCH
First Race Of The Season Turns To Disaster
There was no luck for young motorcycle racer Alex Gault in the first race of the new Season. The team had made the trip to Silverstone, as this was planned to be good practice for later-on when the GSXR European Cup visits in late May.
However unfortunately It didn’t turn out that way.
First off, this being a club race only the short National circuit was being used, Alex was out in practice session three but this was held up after a bike in the previous session had spilled oil all around the track.
The session went ahead but really it was of no use as practice more like skating on ice, it was very evident by the speed all the bikes were circulating that the track was very, very slippery.
Race one (qualifier)
Now this club run their grid positions on position in their championship, with this meeting being their first of the season the first race was used as a qualifier for the grid position in the final.
Last years Champion Charlie Bishop was on pole, Alex was back down the grid in 24th slot. As the lights went out Alex made a perfect start up to what I would estimate 14th or 15th.
By the first corner as they came back round Alex was up into 4th, as he disappeared round Copse Corner the Red Flags came out, A rider had fallen before he had completed his first lap and we waited for the all clear and the re-start.
As the bikes lined up on the grid again…………No Alex!
I walked back round to the pits to meet him pushing the bike back to the garage, he had lost the back end and had a vicious high-side coming out of Copse, and as we have not had the chance to acquire and carry all the spares I would like our day was over.
I have to say a very expensive waste of time. However we are sure the bike will be back together in time for the First race this year at Knockhill on the 1st of April
