ALEX GAULT - MAG SPORT RACING 2007 - European Dream Shattered

9th April 2007

SHATTEREDMAG Sport reports that young Alex’s secured ride in the GSXR European Cup has been “cancelled” apparently due to UK rules and regulations governed by the ACU for age limits for UK riders.

Official statement from Alex Gault Racing:

“It is with great regret I have to tell you Alex will not contend the European GSXR Cup.

Sadly in the UK you need to be 17 to race anything over 675cc (The GSXR is 750) although in any other country in the EU the age is 15.

After an appeal was made by Suzuki GB to the ACU (the sports governing body in this country) for dispensation to allow Alex to race in this European Championship, permission was refused with no reasons given.

Although Alex has already secured a Licence and Start Permission from another UK Federation to race in this European Championship; Suzuki GB could not be seen to be in conflict with the ACU and withdrew the ride.

As you will appreciate we are all devastated by this news not only has Alex lost the ride but it has thrown the rest of our season into doubt as we have went so far down preparing for that Championship.

Due to events which were out with our control, we have to reassess what the future holds for Alex” We would like to thank all the people who tried so hard to rectify this situation.”

MAG Sport Comment

Disappointing news for Alex and MAG Sport as long term supporters and believers of Alex’s talent.

Suzuki GB obviously thought the same and recognition must go to them for this.

Whatever your thoughts of age limits whether on the road or on track MAG Sport believes that in Alex’s case the situation should have been taken on the riders merits and skills.

We could be sophisticated and lay out our reasoning on why Alex should not be “banned” from the GSXR Cup and ask why race talent is being held back in the UK.

However our unsophisticated comment at this stage is, that rules and regulations “suck”.
