Ben Gautrey 2008 - Cadwell Park - May

I woke up Friday morning hoping to have a good days testing learning to track I’ve never rode ready for the weekends racing.

After about 3 sessions out on track I realised that Cadwell Park was a very technical circuit and that I needed to put a lot of effort into it to come up with good results.

Throughout the day my progression was significant and I ended up changing my gearing to suit how I was riding the circuit.

My laps times were good and that gave me confidence into Saturdays qualifying and racing.

17th May (race day 1)

I heard the rain Saturday morning and I wasn’t best pleased. Cadwell Park is beautiful circuit but in the wet it would be ten times as tricky as suddenly all your lines, braking points and speed change.

However, I went into qualifying a little nervous but I got a qualifying place, 30th and I was happy as the weather was looking up and I hadn’t brought any harm to my bike.

I was nervous at the start of my first race because I knew I had to make progression from the place I started at with in my first lap.

The race was restarted four times and at the end of all the hassle of starts and re-starts I finished 21st which I was very pleased with.

In the last race of Saturday I started on a smaller numbered grid and finished that race 10th which sent my confidence sky high as I’d finished a superteen race with a first top ten result.

18th May (race day 2)

Sunday was a much better day weather wise, sun was shining, track was dry and I’d finished the previous day on a high.

I rode the first race with all my heart as I knew I deserved some luck after previous race meetings and Cadwell Park was the place to perform.

My lap times fell by another two seconds in the first race and I achieved position 20th.

During my last race I was in position 8th and was flying. However, the bike didn’t feel right pulling out of the corners and in the end I finished a proud 11th.

I’ve later found out the exhaust bolt was missing coming from the exhaust port to the exhaust.

I can’t wait for Brands hatch on the 30th May.

Thanks to all my sponsors for making my racing experience happen.
