Ben Gautrey 2008 - Mallory Park - July

Mallory Park 27th July 2008

This was only a one day meeting but it was a day to score points to try and make me catch up with my other competitors in the championship.

The morning of my race I had new tyres to be fitted as in the blistering heat to come I new my old tyres wouldn't of lasted my qualifying session.

I qualified 16th out of 32 riders, which was quite a could place half way but the place on the grid was going to be tough to get a good line for the first corner, so I had to get a good start to stop others from overtaking.

Race 1 was stopped after 6 laps and my start wasn't the best.

In the first corner my line wasn't good and I was taken over by about 3 people or more which made things twice as hard to make up lost ground.

When the race was stopped I was 16th but the last completed lap before the red flag came out I was 18th therefore they had to give my result as 18th.

A little disappointing but my times had dropped and new what I had to do in the last race.

Race 2 was a hard and physical race.

Mallory Park is a short circuit with fast as well as sharp slow corners so late braking was essential along with good corner speed to gain on the opponents.

I battled hard with 5 riders until the last 2 laps I gained on nearly everyone in front of me and made moves which scared me as well as the rider I was overtaking.

I finished 10th which is my best result so far and now I'm starting to knock on the door of top ten finishes and to start scoring big points to boost my ever growing confidence.

Thanks to my sponsors for helping me this season.
