End Of Season Race Report
Well another season has passed by; I got within two points of leading the 1300 formula clubmans challenge with three round's remaining but with finances running low. I was hoping I would manage to afford to get to the end of the season, and pay off the debts off across the winter. Next up were the two day meeting at Elvington Park on the short circuit on the Saturday and the long circuit on the Sunday (which is much better as it is a bit more of a faster flowing circuit). Saturday after first practice I had noticed that I had a weeping fork seal and was hoping that it was going to hold out for the day so I could shoot off home in the evening to repair it. Second practice session it was obvious it wasn't going to hold out as there was now oil running down the leg. So a quick trip into York by Rob Brown and Paul my mechanic for the weekend (cheers lads) for some much-needed parts, while me and a lot of others strip the front end down ready to replace the seal. Bit of a rush but we made it (probably with seconds to spare) to the grid.
1300 formula clubmans challenge with changing weather I finished with 2 wins and a second place
600 clubmans challenge also 2 wins and 1-second place.
Sunday hopefully with a few more turning up for the long circuit races I could put some of them between Mick Goodings and myself giving me a bit of a points advantage going into the last round. 1300 Senior Clubmans Cup I was already just about out of the running for the main class as I had missed 2 of the rounds early season so more or less just making sure of third place in the championship I settled for a safe third place in the race. 600 Clubmans Cup the same really missing the early races just played safe and made sure of second in the class with a second place (job done).
1300 Formula Clubmans Challenge I really needed to put Mick under pressure and I found a way past Derek Heron into the first corner but the power of his R1 passed me on every straight as I nipped back into the lead at every turn. I really didn't need this after about four laps I had just broke clear and left to take the faster lines managed to pull clear for the win, with Derek second and Mick third. The difference down to 3 points. Race 2 as we arrived in the holding bay the heavens opened and the choice was already made for the dry tyres as did almost everyone else the Mick arrived on his spare bike fitted with wets (shit didn't need that), I pushed my way into the lead at the first turn but new Mick on the wets would soon come past but just wanted to prove a point. I pushed as hard as I could for the first lap but dropped to second and loosing ground obviously took the easy second place. Now a 6 point gap.
600 Formula Clubmans Challenge a bit further back in the 600's as the two none finishes a third of the way through the season 28 behind with 60 available. The first I won and Mick second on his R6 the second I finished 2nd and Mick 3rd down to 23 with 30 available could be done (just). Possible.
I would like to again thank the Anthony and Robert Jackson of K.F.M for the help and support throughout the season. And Paul for his help taking the bike and me, and then fixing it when I broke it.
