Round's Three and Four at Oliver's Mount and Carnaby 2
Round Three, Oliver's Mount Scarborough
This was going to be a championship round so I had to take part even though it isn't my favourite place. The days before the meeting it was changed to a none championship round because of a ACU ruling stopping clubmans licence holders racing there, therefore it was changed in fairness to the clubmans lincence holders.
Race day damp and miserable start to the day went out for practice on full wets, we only completed three laps before the fog descended down up at the top of the circuit. Practice stopped for safety, 150mph through dense fog isn't good. We waited then mid afternoon 5 hour's later the meeting was cancelled.
Round Four, Carnaby 2
I have had a small amount of work done to the engine by Ashton Performance Centre in Hull (01482 221414) which had improved drive out of the turns it almost feels like my kited CBR and we are still waiting for some cam's to go in.
Practice I was feeling confident with the extra power that I have been which was much needed also some small adjustment's to the stock shocker is allowing me to get the power down much earlier things are looking good.
Race 1 Formula 600. A good start slotting into second place and chasing hard for the lead on the 2nd lap I was starting to make inroad's towards the front. With two laps to go I overshot the top chicane and dropped to third place from then on it was one mistake after another finished 3rd.
Race 2 600 Clubmans Cup. Much the same again riding too hard and inconsistent which isn't my usual style and it doesn't work for me 3rd again.
Race 3 Senior Clubmans Cup. I deeded to calm down and compose myself so I decide to slow down to go faster. Third into turn one with the usual two in front Goodings and Crossley and a 250 GP bike on my tail I new the slightest mistake and he would be though as there was some pretty tight series of corners with a few fast straight's for good measure. I kept my head and slowly pulled away from the 250 and the GSXR1000 behind him to finish third with no mistakes, now I just need to add some pace to it.
Race 4 Formula 600. As I arrived on the grid the oil warning light keep't flickering so I pulled back into the pits and checked and toped it up arriving back on the grid after the warm-up lap. I had to take the place left at the back of the grid (which was fair enough) a cracking start even I don't know how I managed it but I was second into turn 1 (and no I didn't jump the start) I was running 2nd for a few laps, dropping to third as Goodings passed me but a lot closer to the front another 3rd place finish.
Race 5 600 Clubmans Cup. What a race first into turn 1 with Goodings right behind me after 4 laps he passed only to run too deep into the turn allowing me to turn in tight and outdrag him to the next turn. We was swapping placed every turn on the last lap I had worked out if I was in front into the last chicane he would have a go there to so I held off so I could have a run at him. As we run down into the last bend he held a tight line but not tight enough I almost stopped at I stuck in down the inside of him blocking him so he couldn't out drag me to the line race win at last.
Race 6 Senior Clubmans Cup. Seemed an easier race maybe that was just more confident lead for almost 5 laps with just a wild pass here and there, which was never going to work. Until at the first turn on the last lap when Bret Crossley made a wild move to pass Goodings and me. He came sailing past never going to stop for the turn and run wide then came back across the track and rammed me clean off the circuit dropping me behind him and Mick Goodings and also loosing about 3 second. Going into the last turn we where almost three abreast as Crossley high-sided leaving me and Mick to avoid the carnage and drag to the line, I just lost out to Mick but the red flags came out so the result was from the lap before which I was leading so race win again which I would have won anyway if there hadn't been any stupid riding.
This leaves me in third place in the championship in both classes 5 points behind in the 600 Clubmans Cup and 7 Points adrift in the Senior Clubmans Cup.
I am hoping to be able to find the funds to allow me to do the two big meetings at Oliver's Mount in July and September and also a national 600 or MRO 600 round towards end of the season. So I can check the pace out for a possible move up again in 2003. So if anyone can help in anyway at all don't hesitate to contact me alan_tanton@hotmail.com
I would like to thank Team Magsport and A.P.C for the excellent work done to the motor.
Next round is again at Carnaby 2 (Leconfield, East York's) but on the short circuit this time. Hopefully I will have the cams in this time ready for even more wins. See you on 16th June.
