End of Nirvana?  : - Speed Limits

Most of you who make the yearly pilgrimage to the Isle of Man TT will be well aware that the general biking press makes a big deal of our lack of a national speed limit.

Manx MAG would like to highlight that this freedom is under threat.

Due to the successful UK Government "Speed Kills" campaign most of the general public believe that the slower you go the safer it is.  The Manx government is under great pressure from well meaning individuals to introduce an all island speed limit.

One of our main problems is actually you the visitor. Double-D-Freelance & K2 Photography

It is fantastic to be able to open up your bike without fear of the dreaded gatso. But in doing so here on the Isle of Man, not adhearing to existing speeds limits and trying to emulate your TT hero you inadvertently, or in some cases intentionally, give certain people more ammunition and strengthen "their" cause to curtail your/our fun.

Every year the tabloid press in the UK revels in pointing out how dangerous biking is on the Isle of Man.  "Death Island" is the front-page title that sticks most in my mind.

 So please, please.

Keep to the speed limits where they exist and give some consideration to other road users where they don't.  Remember that you are on public roads going past schools, through shopping streets and villages where lorries, tractors, buses, car drivers and novice motorcyclists are going about their daily lives.

You are on roads that you only travel over for a few days a year, and when you leave those of us living here are left with the effects of your visit. (i.e. the other 50 weeks of the year)

Please enjoy your stay and live to come back another year, hopefully without a national speed limit.

If you would like some details on how to start racing motorcycles click here and we'll see you in the Manx Grand Prix in a couple of years?   After all, the only way to truly experience the TT course is on closed roads.

Thanks   MAG Sport & Manx MAG
