MALLORY PARK 11 AUGUST 2002
After nearly a month without racing, I went to Mallory Park to contest round 10 of the New ERA Club Championship. Placed on Grid 22 for the first, non-championship race, I was going to have my work cut out to get a good result. During the next 8 laps I found myself stuck in 17th place unable to make headway because of fading front brakes. The lever was coming further back towards the bar on each lap. I was overtaken on lap 9 and finished in 18th.
Dad changed the brake fluid to one with a higher boiling point and that seemed to do the trick. As my second race was for championship points I was keen to do well. I was placed on the 3rd row and held 12th place into the first corner. I progressed to 10th over the next 5 laps but a mistake on lap 6 at the hairpin saw me demoted to 11th.
I fought back to snatch 10th place back on the last lap with the help of some back markers. I was strangely credited with 11th place and we pointed out the back marker in front of me who was credited with 10th but the officials refused to believe us and so the result stood.
My best lap of the weekend was 53.67 seconds and I finally got my last signature for my National Licence.
My next races will be at Pembrey for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Once again I would like to thank Alan and Jay of A & R Racing for their excellent service and good advice, especially helping me solve my brake fade problems
