MANX MAGs RECOMMENDED ESTABLISHMENTS FOR TT 2001

All the below establishments welcome motorcyclists' 52 weeks of the year and sell a high standard of food and beverages.

(Although all are pubs Manx MAG & MAG UK do not condone drinking alcohol and driving).

Railway Inn, Union Mills.  Follow the TT course out of Douglas for a couple of miles. Located on the left just before Union Mills bridge & village.  Veranda seating area to watch the racing and off road parking.

Glen Helen Lodge.  Turn right at Ballacraine traffic lights and follow the TT course. You will find it on your right with a huge parking area in front. Be very careful if you are turning right into the parking space. Keep an eye on your wing mirrors and oncoming traffic as this is an accident Black Spot.

If you are watching the racing from here you are 'locked in' when the roads close but there's a beautiful glen walk if you wish to stretch you legs between races. Double-D-Freelance & K2 Photography

This is the first commentary point after the Start Line.

Raven, Ballaugh, on the course and keep going till you reach the 'hump back' bridge.  You'll see the Raven on the inside of the course on the right hand side just over the bridge.   Although trapped in during races you do have access to Barregarrow crossroads and Brandywell (at the top of Hailwood Rise).  From this location you will travel through some of the nicest scenery in the middle of the island

Sulby Hotel, Sulby.  Found half way down the Sulby Straight, at the crossroads, on the left.  Owned and run by Rosie, a MAG Affiliated member and Manx Grand Prix Official.

This is one of the places to see the race bike's 'flat out'.

The Bridge, Ramsey.  Take a left at Ramsey's Parliament Square, go straight on at the two mini-roundabouts and the Bridge is on your left.  A good stopping place when visiting the Ramsey Sprint on Mad Sunday and Tuesday of race week.

The Viking Hotel, Ramsey.  Can be found in St. Johns Square, near the swimming pool in Ramsey.  Noted for live bands all year round and at TT.

Creg-ny-Baa, Mountain Road.   Coming down off the mountain past Kepple Gate & Kates Cottage you will see "the Creg" right in front of you.  It has veranda seating areas and plenty of off road parking as well as it's own grandstand to watch the races.  (You do have to pay for this privilege on race days)

On Mad Sunday it is well worth a visit as Radio TT broadcasts live from "the Creg" and the atmosphere is one of the many items to experience during the TT Festival.

OFF THE TT COURSE

The Bridge, Douglas.  Found on the north quayside 200 yards down from the Steam Railway Station.

Marine, Peel.   Go straight through the Ballacraine traffic lights, past Tynwald Hill and keep on the road to Peel. You will find the Marine right on the shorefront overlooking the bay and Peel castle. It has the bar and a separate restaurant.  Excellent sunsets are to be found from this vantage point.

The George, Castletown.   In the south of the island, The George is in the middle of the idyllic town square behind Castle Rushen.  Recently converted back to a hotel.

The Falcon, Port Erin.   Found at the end of the high street over-looking the beautiful Port Erin beach.

The Whitestone, Ballasalla.  Cannot be missed as you head south from Douglas, as it is on the mini roundabout where the road separates for the airport and Ballabeg/Silverdale.  Good off road parking round the back.

SAFETY WARNING

Please note that if using a camera with an automatic flash when watching the racing you may need to cover the flash with a piece of tape or you might inadvertently distract those competitors you wish to capture on film.

USEFUL INFORMATION

To help you find your way round during your visit you should be able to pick up a free basic map of the Island at the ferry terminal's Tourist Information center.

WHERE TO FIND MAG AT THE TT
