James Clamp September 2000
Testing Track Day – Mallory Park 23rd September
With the help of Eamonn Cleere (Tech 2000) we managed to find a good set-up for the bike. We also worked on improving my lap times but a failed gear change linkage meant an early end to the days riding for me.
Testing Session – Snetterton 29th September
Again we worked on finding a good set-up then, with a little help from Andy Notman, I worked on learning how to carry more corner speed and carry the brakes more into corners.
RACES
New ERA Club Championship - Snetterton 30th September
With a full grid of 40 riders, the first two corners of the Formula 600 races were going to interesting to say the least. 40 a breast into the first corner is something I'm having a little trouble coming to grips with, consequently I found myself well down the field with a lot of catching up to do. I managed to turn in consistent 1 minute 21 second laps but I was unable to make my way up the grid further than 32nd in the first race and 35th in the second.
My last race of the day, the Open Class, was a little less crowded and after a good start I finished in 18th place after a race long battle with an R6 and a RS250 Honda. I was surprised to see how fast a 250 could go. During this race I managed to put in a couple of 1 minute 20 second laps.
New ERA Club Championship - Snetterton 1st October
A slightly smaller grid (38 riders) this time but again I found it difficult to make progress in the first two corners. It seems that I have nowhere to go without risking a crash. I'm sure I get the hang of it soon. Today I managed to turn in more 1 minute 20 second laps and I manage to finish 27th in the first race and 25th in the second.
Again my last race of the day was the Open Class this time I was dueling with an R1. I was getting passed him in the corners but I lost out big time down Sears Straight. I finished 15th with a best lap of 1 minute 20 second and 9 tenths. This is ½ a second faster than my previous best set with a race tuned engine. The engine I'm currently running is a standard one.
