The 2000 Season

Snetterton and Snow

Pic by BKVPWhen we turned up on Thursday night for the test day on Friday, it was snowing.  We thought it might die down by the morning but it was raining hard so we thought, "We might need the wets for this weather!"  I started off quite cautiously as the last time I rode a Snetterton, I was on my 125 so it was a bit of a change.

Towards the end of the day I was doing 1.26's on knackered wets on a dry line and I was on an old bike so I thought I did pretty well.

By the morning it was still raining but by my race, the first race, the track was drying out but I still went out on wets because it looked like it was going to rain again so I would have the advantage.  There was only one problem, I came off.  I got a bad start but went from around 39th to 26th in the space of two laps but lost the front on the brakes as I was going way too fast into the chicane before the start/finish straight.  I went really well though, I thought.

I then went out in the Supersport 600 but I knew I wouldn't stand a chance but I used it as track time and to get to know the bike better.

In my third race, Clubman 600, I went really well again but it was the same old story, I would outbrake them and carry more corner speed but lose out on the straight.

In the fourth race, Supersport 600, again I knew I wouldn't do very well but someone lent me their bike.  I was very apprehensive at first with it being a foreign bike but I couldn't wait.  I borrowed a GSXR 600 and it was so much lighter, faster and handled so much better than my bike.  The one thing that I didn't like was the brakes.  They were PVM Race brakes with EBC Pro-lite discs.  I hated them, I had tooooooo much brakes and that may sound weird as you can never have to much brakes but I couldn't get used to them.  I only needed one finger to brake and even then the front was locking up!  I was doing 1.25's on my CBR and I was ringing its neck but when I went out on the GSXR, I beat them times on the second lap and I was riding like an old woman so if I were used
to the bike, I would do really well.  Anyone want to buy me a Suzuki?

I have just bought another CBR with a Tony Scott motor, ram air and 110 bhp from a friend, Tony Chambers, who has moved up, so I know the motor is quick. He did 1.19's at Snetterton first time out and he is a big lad.Hopefully we can make some progress next time out. Unfortunately, we won't be at Brands as we did not get an entry as demand for that meeting is huge.

All the best till next time Tim.
