First MRO Race Lydden 26th May 2002
We entered Tim in his first MRO round this weekend and he did not disgrace himself.
Morning free practice went well with Tim equalling his laps times straight away. Timed qualifying was a new experience for Tim at this level and he was very anxious, as he knew you had to be at the front of the grid to stay in touch with the fast boys. 12 minutes into the session he did a 44.75 and this put him 12th on the grid. Not too bad.
We have never seen Tim so nervous before a race and he was so keen to get on with it. After a cracking start, Tim settled in to 10th place and started to work his way forward. It was obvious by lap 16 that he was tiring and he lost a couple of places.
Just as he got a second wind and started to catch up, he went down on oil at the Hairpin on the last lap. To say he was sick was an understatement. Still, he was unhurt and it will make him more determined at the next round at Brands.
He managed to get his times down to 44.20 which is a second off Shane Byrnes old lap record. The close ratio box will help the times come down again we are sure. Just have to ship it to Ten Kate for repair.
Back soon, Tim # 76 & Darren
Brands next on the 8th / 9th June
