Fun Day Out? Or Comedy of Errors?

It is one thing learning a lesson. It is quite a different story, when you have to remember the lesson learnt!

This was true of our return to Aintree on the 14th of August for round 4 of the Aintree Club Championships. We had planned to contend this championship but with it being held over only 5 rounds and Alex having already missed two due to injury, it will be impossible for him to do well.

However these meetings at Aintree are ran by a fantastic club on a great and dare I say safe circuit and not to be missed, we will be attending the remaining rounds as fun and using then in an exercise on how to remember lessons learnt!

I say that as at our last visit here back in May, we (OK I!) made a few mistakes with bike set up. On our return I made the exact same mistakes. What can I say? I'm Slow but Sure! SLOW to learn & SURE to forget!

Getting back to the racing, it was only after Alex pulling out of the first 125 Gp race did I remembered what I was doing wrong, and with the problem fixed it was down to race two of the day for Alex the up to 500cc and Open singles race.

Now this track favours the faster bikes and Alex would never feature on the podium but we could however measure his performance against the other 125Gp bikes in the same race. Starting from P25 he made his way up to 11th and fourth Gp 125 home,

Final of the 125Gp race and Alex was of the back of the grid due to his retirement from the qualifying race, he looked good and had made his way up to 3rd when a mistake seen him run wide at second the right hander and onto the grass, He managed to keep the bike upright and rejoin the circuit but in last place with 3 laps remaining he made a fantastic charge, going much faster than previously, managing to pass all the back markers and make his way to 7th before the final flag fell.

Final of the 500cc and open singles class and last race of the day for Alex. What could he do here?

Well from 11th on the grid from the 35 starters, he had a faultless ride coming home 7th overall but more importantly 2nd 125 Gp bike home. A fantastic result to end a really enjoyable day.

These results were good enough for Alex to bring home the top Junior award and a superb Cup to show for it. For which we must thank the Aintree Club, with so little juniors attending it says a lot about the people who run this event, to present such good trophies.

While we are giving out our thanks, I feel we have mention, that with our team becoming more familiar with the officials and Marshals at these meetings, we are starting to be able to put faces and names to the otherwise nondescript orange overalls that dot every circuit in the country and are starting to realise that they are even more MAD FOR IT than us. Travelling for miles and giving up their time for very little reward and in the process making the meeting possible. A heart felt thanks to each and every one of you, I am sure you all know every rider appreciates the effort you all make.
