Alex Gault JRA Rounds 7 & 8

Don't know what to say about this one really as I was only there in body not spirit, not being in the best of health it knocked me for six and the weekends activities are a blur! And before you say it! it was not that sort of spirit that caused the blur!!!

The story hear will have to centre on the weather; atrocious was the only way to describe it. High winds and driving rain causing the meeting to be cancelled after race12 on the Saturday, Now I usually wait till the end to thank people but considering the conditions, our thanks go out to all the marshals and organisers, for coping so admirably, to John Cain and the riders Rep's for making the correct decision when stopping the meeting.

Alex got three races in on the Saturday, In his junior race he finished second to an on form Joel Williams, Joel who is sitting in second position in the 125Gp championship and fresh from 4 wins at Brands hatch got off to a flyer and although it looked like Alex had started to close him in, he could not get close before the final flag fell. Behind this and what might have been the race of the meeting between Alex Heaton and Jay “The Vet” Dunn, in a 7 lap, race long battle, the two were never separated by more than a bike length, Alex Heaton experience showing through as he managed to time crossing the finish line to perfection 0.1 of a second in front of Dunn. Fourth was Louis Dadge who seemed to be struggling this weekend with James Faulkard being the first on the 80cc machines home, with 80cc championship winner Matt Hoyle down in 8 th position.

In the 500cc trophy race, Alex did very well considering he pulled a grid slot of P27, In worsening conditions he had made his way up to 6th by the end of the race Behind all the old favourites, this meeting seen the return of David Bath, David raced at the first round off the P&D championship, but has not visited “Three Sisters” this year, but here again he showed a clean pair of heels to the chasing pack of Frank Bains, Mark Ingelby, Alistair Howarth, & Steve O'Brian.

The open Singles class was dominated by Bryn Owen, This local lad who also has yet to visit “Three Sisters” this year, certainly showed the visitors the way round “his” track! The rest were there fighting for second.

The heavens opened and with the heavy winds the track was soon a wash, track inspections by the Clark of the Coarse John Cain revealed around 18” of standing water on one part of the track, after waiting to see what would happen it was decided there would be no more racing taking place and games would commence on Sunday.

With this being a two day meeting the evening entertainment was organised in the club house and featured the now customary General knowledge and motorcycle racing quiz hosted by Commentator Garry Gardiner, Unfortunately I couldn't be there, but from what I seen it looked like a great success.

Sunday Morning and the start of the Championship points races carried over from yesterday, now it was juniors out first and could Alex go one better than yesterdays result? From the start he took the lead, and just stretched it every lap finishing 13 seconds in front of yesterdays victor Joel Williams, again the most exciting part of the race coming from Louise Dadge, Alex Heaton & Jay Dunn, Dunn got the better of both this time with Dadge and Heaton coming over the line together only 0.5 seconds separating all three bikes. Matt Hoyle came over the line in 9 th as top 80cc finisher Anthony Kelly and Aaron Easter taking the last steps on the 80cc podium. In a bitter blow to the Derbi teams shot at the title, the engine of James Faulkard bike blew-up forcing the youngster who is sitting in second place in the 80cc championship into retirement.

Alex next took to the track in the 500cc open race, the high winds and rain certainly took there toll, Alex's worst finish of the year down in 15 th place, up front David Bath, but an amazing ride from young Ashley Cornall seen him cross the line in second with Steve O'Brian 3 rd . Now amazingly Alex's bad showing has not affected his championship standing still sitting in third. Top of the 500cc table, Alistair Howarth 63, Andy Burgin 58, Alex Gault 40, Frank Bains, Mark Ingleby & Ashley Cornall all on 32, Simon Griffith and David Bath on 30. These are the only contenders I think with any chance of top three finish in the championship.

The open singles race and that man Owen did it again, seven seconds in front of Matt Cole, Alex Gault & Simon Griffiths the three separated by 0.12 of a second. Her again although Alex did not win the race it has not affected the top three positions in the open singles Championship with Alex on 52, Simon on 47, and Charlie Fazackerly on 39.

We only did one other race before heading for home; I let him take part in the Junior trophy race, the weather again playing a big part in the proceedings with only 7 finishers, the rest crashing out. First home, Alex 25 seconds in front of Stuart Reece, Alex Heaton and Jamie Hamilton. Big congratulations to Aaron Easter taking his first 80cc win this season on the Motorhispania.

The (Unconfirmed) championship standings are

125 GP

Alex Gault 81, Joel Williams 58, Alex Heaton (formula) 52, Louis Dadge 51, Stuart Reece (formula) 48, these are the only ones with a chance of a top three finish in the championship.

Formula 125

Alex Heaton, Stuart Reece, Jay Dunn, Anthony Rodgers. Don't know points!

Formula 80

Matt Hoyle 95, James Faulkard 74, Richard Wardle, Aaron Easter both on 58 Anthony Kelly 30, again these are the only ones capable of top 3 in the championship.
