MAY ROUND UP
Another action packed month for Alex in May, it started with a return to the Three Sisters circuit & the JRA Championships.
Alex was amazing! Strong words maybe but backed up by the response the team have had since.
Again Alex dominated the JRA races; he also took part in the Open Singles and the up to 500cc open class.
There is a detailed report on Alexs’ web site at www.minimotoracer.com/racereports.htm so not too much detail here but lets tell you about the aftermath.
It has caused a lot of interest in Alex with images appearing in newspapers, magazines, websites and Preston and District are to use a picture of him on their Events Poster. Alex was also mentioned at other events he did not attend as an example of young British Talent.
Here is an excerpt from “International Bike Sport News” The leading motorcycle racing paper in the UK, Dated 18th May.
YOUNG GAULT’S THE STAR AT THREE SISTERS
Scot Alex Gault is only 13-years old. He weighs less than six stones wet through and is only 4 feet 11 inches tall, but he was easily the star of this Preston & District meeting at Three Sisters.
Gault (125 Moto-roma) was expected to win both his JRA races, but he was out in four other events over the day. The two single Cylinder races and the two up-to 500cc events.
His score-card from those outings read two wins, a fourth and a crash while leading.
The schoolboy beat Charlie Fazackerly (686Yamaha) by over 12 seconds in the first single event and set the fastest lap not just of this race but of the entire day at 57.3 seconds.
Another talented teenager Ciran Peruca (125Honda) was third, four seconds further back.
A couple of hours later Gault looked to be in command of the second singles event. Third off the line, he picked off the two ahead to take the lead, only to lose the front end soon after.
That left the way clear for Perruca to beat Fazakerly, who set the fastest lap of that race to the line by less that a second.
Gault was forth home in the first of the two up-to 500cc races, unable to catch winner Steve O’Brian (FUBU Honda 400) or second place Alistair Howarth (Yamaha 400).
Gault was just a fifth of a second behind Frank Baines (Kawasaki 400) at the end of the seven laps, from 18th on the grid.
Gault stormed to a near nine second victory in race two, with the bonus of yet another fastest lap of 57.9 seconds, which was also the second fastest lap of the meeting chased in vain by O’Brian, Simon Griffiths (Honda125) and Andy Burgin (Aprilia 250).
Without that Pesky wonder child to worry about, Fazakerly and O’Brian were able to concentrate on their other classes.
The report then goes on to describe the rest of the meeting.
Alex also headlined the JRA report in the same issue.
COMFORTABLE WIN BOUBLE FOR GAULT
Alex Gault (125 Moto-roma), as expected dominated the two Junior Racing Associations races at Three Sisters.
He beat Lee Vernon (125 Honda) by almost 22 seconds in the trophy race and had a 20 seconds winning margin over the same rider in the championship outing later in the day.
The piece then continues with the rest of the proceedings. Praise indeed and thanks from the team go out to writer of the report, Chris Carter of BSN for the kind words.
Big news from The Conti Cup UK.
The bike has been sold! But not before a visit to round six held at Strubby near Louth in Lincolnshire,
Again there is a report up on his web site, but that is the end of an era. With the “Conti” being sold and an opportunity to be re-acquainted with “an old friend” the Metrakit Gp bike which Alex had the privilege of racing a few times last year thanks to importers BEK Wholesale.
This time Alex got the chance to race the 50cc version in the METRAKIDS Challenge. With no practice to speak off, he managed to get 3 x 3rds with a crash in the last race of the day.
Now although he has enjoyed racing Minibikes and the 50cc bikes, he thinks it is time for him to concentrate on the one bike so as they say “The best laid plans of mice and men” Now it is only going to be 125 reports you will read.
A foot note to this news although he will not be contending any more rounds, Alex is still leading the Conti Cup UK Championship.
Moto-roma Gp bike at Aintree
Alex was out again on this Moto-roma Gp bike at Aintree “mid month”.
Sisters is a tight and technical circuit, Aintree is one of the fastest circuits in the country and this is where you get the specialist bikes.
Bear in mind a new Honda 125 GP bike is around £8,500, there were bikes there which cost a reputed £17,000.
So you will understand then, when it looked liked Alex was going backwards down the strait. He did manage to win one of his races, the up to 250 classics which the club had put the juniors into.
However in a day plagued by misfortune consisting of three retirements with a sick engine and one with a rear wheel puncture this was the only highlight. Still a very enjoyable day and a few lessons learnt.
BIG Thanks this month to Scot-fibres for replacing the damaged body work on his bike after Cadwell, To Jerry Stacey for some tyres etc. and to Sam Dornan for financial help.
Dates for June
With the news that Alex will only be racing the 125 these may be altered and added.
11th Practice Three Sisters. 12th Aintree club championships. 13th JRA Championship Three Sisters.
