Alex Gault - Short & Sweet - Race Report For Knockhill August 2006
Alex Gault Sen sends a short and sweet report from Knockhill as Alex heads off to Valencia (Spain) tomorrow for the Red Bull Rookies “try out”.
Alex gault Sen said, “We have been successful in raising funds which will go a long way to covering the cost of the trip.”
Now with that in mind Alex was under strict instruction that, as he can not win the championship and the chance of a life time is only days away:
NOT TO FALL OFF!....... NOT TO DAMAGE THE BIKE! (Which is up for sale now) NOT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES! And to ride “well within” his abilities.
In warm up held on a wet track, I don’t know where he was in relation to the rest of the field, then in Qualifying, held on an almost dry track, he languished in 7th position for most of the session until a hurry up signal from the pits brought him up to 4th on the last lap.
Race One
He was not happy with the handling of the bike, with some changes he went out for race one of the day.
Bearing in mind my words a steady start saw him in 4th on lap one.
The new KDMC F400 champion Craig McClelland was away out in front by the time Alex had made it into second which he settled for with Brian Nelson 3rd and Lewis Farrow 4th.
Race Two
Again he came into sight after the start in 4th place as he rounded the hairpin he had a “moment” as the bike flicked him out of the seat, he recovered but back in 6th place, this little reminder calmed him down a bit, he did make his way through to 3rd but well out in front Lewis with Craig a further 3 seconds in front of him.
I must say; Today Craig McClelland was in a class of his own, streaks ahead of anyone in the race, a worthy winner of the title.
So there we are, 2nd overall, bike and Alex in one piece, so sort of happy with the outcome.
Little foot note, we have now found that it was a bearing in the trailing arm “breaking up” that had caused the strange handling problem all day, we’ll get that sorted on our return.
Like I said short and sweet, off to pack my bag….. OH!...... On that note,
Thanks to Mick H, Stuart T, Trevor B, Chris C., Uncle William & Aunty Gillian & Aunty Gillians’ Granny. David T. and the anonymous man who said, “I can’t afford much but perhaps this will help” as he put £10 in my hand today.
Don’t know who he is but that gesture meant a lot too me.
