Alex Wins CB500 CUP! - 2006
The CB500 CUP Rounds 8 & 9 took us back to Snetterton in Norfolk the scene of the first two rounds back in May which seem so long ago now.
Again Alex dominated the field, playing in qualifying he started in 2nd position on the Grid but led the field home in every race,
Saturdays Race 1 held in wet conditions seen Alex’s closest rival crash out at the end of the start finish straight on lap 2, Alex said “I don’t know what Jamie was thinking, he passed me going into the corner and I knew there was no way he was stopping, I steered clear as I watched him drop down the gears lock up the back wheel, then the back wheel stepped out and threw him over the highside” Alex then had a good race with Aaron Easter passing him on the last lap to take the win.
Race 2 was a bit of a walk in the park; Alex got to the front and just did enough to stay in front of second place man over the line Jamie Hamilton.

Sunday and race 1 of the day could see Alex clinch the title, there was also some “goings on” off the track as Jamie Hamilton was not on his “Teenage kicks” Bike which he had raced all year.
He had managed to get a loan of a bike from Mick Holden, so took his place on the grid along side Alex, Alex won the race Bla… Bla…….. Bla………, getting a bit boring now!
But it was Mike Jenkins who upset the apple cart, by storming home to a fantastic second place in front of Aaron and Jamie, Mike has been really unlucky this season and one to watch next year, (Win it or Bin it!) as he proved by crashing out of 3rd place in race 2. As someone said affectionately “HEADCASE! Mad on the track and the roads!”
Race 2 It had all been decided Alex was the new champion he didn’t even need to race in this one, but he did and didn’t pull any punches this time either, into the lead and kept the head down, finishing the 8 lap race 15 seconds in front of Jamie Hamilton who looks almost certain to finish in second place in the championship
All weekend, all through the field there were some fantastic dices as happens at Snetterton riders slipstream into groups and CB’s are no exception, Brilliant spectacle.
I think every one had a smile on their face.
Incidentally Alex’s fastest lap was almost 2 seconds faster than anyone else in the race a 1.21.81 which I think is the fastest lap recorded for the CB class round Snetterton.
That’s it over for us for this year, he might be out on track again but we have nothing planned.
His bikes are up for sale and I’m on the lookout for a 600 which we plan to start testing as soon as possible, in preparation for next year.
So if you are looking for a CB, a 125 GP or a Supersports 400 give us a call, If you have an old 2006 600cc racer lying around we’d be pleased to hear from you, especially if you’d like to run him as well!
