Alex Gault - MAG Sport Racing 2006 - Alex Tests on 600…..

Alex takes to the track for the first time aboard the JJR prepared Yamaha R6

Amazingly Alex got on track at Donington with JJR and MKW Racing, a team put together to contend the British Super Sports Cup in 2007.

“Amazingly” as the rest of the country was being battered by storms, we drove down through High winds and torrential rain to arrive at a dry but cold and windy Donington Park and meet up with team leaders James and Chris.

After the formal introductions on what was a very informal day, Alex was introduced to the bike he’d be riding a “99” Yamaha R6 Prepared by JJR although an old bike it was perfect for Alex’s first time aboard a 600cc machine.

Alex decided to sit out the first session to let the track temperature get up a bit, the sun was still low in the sky and there was no hurry.

He took to the track in the second session and had a few laps returning to the pits as the temp gauge was reading high after through investigation it was decided that was exactly what it was; the engine was running at the correct temp, just the gauge reading high but all agreed Alex had taken the right course of action.

Session 3 was much more successful starting to get the feel for it, he returned to pit lane to tweak the suspension, all good so far!

Alex talks to Chris as James checks the bike

Between sessions Alex, Chris and James talked over what was happening and in session 4 Alex put in his quickest time of the day. Again some work on the suspension and out for session 5.

Another encouraging session; Alex put in a 1.44 second lap for the GP circuit. They tell me that would have qualified him for the Grid of this years British Super Sport race.

Now when you consider the circumstances, first time aboard a 600, older type of bike and on loan, suspension not set up for his weight, cold blustery conditions, etc. etc. Every one thought his performance was impressive.

So where does that leave us?....... the British Super Sport Cup would undoubtedly be the most expensive route for him next year.

It is without doubt the highest profile but what would be the benefits????

I have come to the decision; I will only be able to tell you what he is doing………..when he takes to the grid for the first race, up until then nothing is certain.
