BS Racing Ltd Pre Season
After last seasons achievements, I sat and thought “so what’s next ?”. I won Formula 400 championships two years in a row and had greatly improved my TT result to earn a bronze replica, plus I had taken part in the Ulster Grand Prix for the first time.
I’d even managed to get a 7th on the supermoto, despite difficulties a first seasons teeth-ing problems.
The time was right to progress to a new challenge…….600cc Production Racing!
There are two types of 600cc racing in the UK and Ireland; 600cc production and 600cc Supersport (SS).
In the SS class, race tuning of all engine parts and use of race cams etc is allowed. This requires a huge budget which I do not have at present, to cover the spare engine and tuning costs.
Production racing is less expensive as no tuning is allowed (in theory).
Most of the racing on the British Mainland is SS class and so I would expect to be run-ning approximately 10% down on power compared to the SS bikes. So in this first year of 600c racing I expect to be re learning my racecraft on the new machine.
The benefit of running a Production spec bike is that I can enter twice as many races on the road circuits auch as TT, UGP and other Irish events, getting twice the experience and enjoyment. I will also hope to get an entry in the Scarborough Gold Cup in Septem-ber.
The bike is already kitted out with a Power Commander, K&N filter, Harris End can, Maxton suspension and EBC Road Race discs with GFA race pads.
The 2003 R6 comes with black 5 spoke wheels and black frame and we have opted for a black impregnated glass fibre race fairing, so it should be easy to spot on the track.
The plan this year is to compete in short circuit events such as the Melville Champion-ship at East Fortune, The North East Championship at Croft (Darlington) and other se-lected circuits. We may be racing at circuits such as Darley Moor or returning to Aintree and may get to a round at Brands Hatch or Silverstone this year. This is partly as Neil is moving to Cheshire this month and the bike will be kept at his ga-rage. It is after all Neil’s bike and he is the one who has made sure the bike has been set up well enough for it to win Championships. I am grateful to him for continuing to be the “get up and go” in the team.
Me? …Oh..I just ride it !
I will be riding the MZ Mastiff from Moto Cal again this year and John Harding is carrying on his excellent support from last year, where he got the bike competitive and carried out some amazing trackside adjustments to keep the bike in the running doing the nec-essary engine work to finish off the bike ready for an attempt at a top 5 placing in the Melville Supermoto Championship 2004.
So it’s a new start for the team this year, which would not have been possible without some assistance from Brian Patterson to cover the cost of a lot of the race parts for the R6 until we can get some sponsorship in place.
So far I’m please to announce the following sponsors are helping the team in 2004.
