Bronze Baillie Ulster Grand Prix
Scottish eyes were smiling in the camp of Magsport Rider Duncan Baillie at this year's Ulster Grand Prix held at Dundrod.
His first year racing in the 600 class has Duncan piloting a 2003 Yamaha R6 and coming in 30th place in the production 600 race early on Saturday. A bike Duncan admits himself takes a bit of riding compared to the 400s he is used to. Not to be put off by the sheer aggression of the bigger bike Duncan is keen to show us that he is more than capable of top ten finishes and his performance in the 400 race proved only that.
On a stock ZXR400 the Scotsman wasn't overly happy with his getting off the grid in the 125/400 race and was down the pack by the end of the first straight. But in his own words he was pushing limits, out-braking the competition and gaining ground on the many corners of the infamous Dundrod circuit.
By Deer's Leap he was regaining tarmac and well up the pack. Despite the race being stopped the race leaders weren't going to lose momentum and Duncan smiles as he recalled fighting for third place on the last lap at Jordan's Cross, beat only to the finish line by Joe Phillips and ever so modest race winner Anita Buxton - a lady making history with a win she tried to pass off as a "fluke!" Another lap and we feel they would have been hard pressed to fight off the barking Scotsman.
Last race of the day for the MAG sponsored rider was the Supersport 600 where he finished a respectable 20th place, the clutch on the R6 being a little soft for his liking but again proving that he is more than capable of filtering through the pack.
We left the "teetotal" Scottish man in the company of the neighbouring BTS Team and MAG member/Mechanic Adrian Colville who reckons he has the perfect drink for the celebrations. Duncan be warned, if you value your teeth enamel steer clear!
