Duncan has been part of MAG Sport from 2002 when he was awarded the MAG Sport sponsorship fund in memory of Joey Dunlop as a newcomer to the TT races on the Isle of Man.
Duncan fulfills his ambition in 2005 to race more on the roads than short circuits. Duncan says,”The atmosphere is more relaxed, I think because there is less panic than short circuits and the adrenaline buzz is a longer slower build up, which lasts longer too.”
So when when John McLaughlin and Billy McKinstry asked Duncan to race the two JML bikes in the Irish Road Race National Support class for the 2005 season he just had to say yes!
The team is run by Billy McKinstry, with a vast experience of Road Racing with the main sponsorship from John McLaughlan Transport, Donegal. With a splattering of other sponsors that have assisted Duncan in his sucess during the past several seasons.
Including in 2004 a podium finish at the Ulster GP and achieving his goal of a 110mph lap at the TT which gave him a race average speed (including pit stop) of 108.6mph, and two finishers medals.
In his first full season on Irish Roads, Duncan will contest the Irish National Road race Championships, runing a GSXR 600 and a ZXR 400 in the 249-750cc and 201-400cc Support Classes, respectively.
This first season on Irish roads will be used to gain experience, but Duncan is hoping for some good results to reward the team’s faith in giving him the rides.
The first race of the season will be the Cookstown 100 on the 30th of April.
After this there are 11 further Road Races to be contested, so a full season awaits the team.
So look out for the two yellow JML / McKinstry bikes with number 7 on the Irish roads in 2005, because as Duncan says, ”I’m out to win !”
