Laura Maliphant - MAG Sport Racing 2006
New to MAG Sport for 2006 is Laura Maliphant a 20 year old from Surrey who has had a passion biking since the age of three.
Laura started riding on the road at sixteen on a 50cc moped, moving up to a 125cc cruiser at seventeen, taking her test in 2002.
Passing the test at the first attempt she purchased a Kawasaki ER-5 (500cc) and after two years on the restricted licence moved up to a Yamaha YZF-R6.
After spending time on track on the R6 at track days, Laura has now got the racing bug and her passion for motorcycles extends to her work life, working for Woking Yamaha Centre.
Laura says, “I am a very determined person and I will work my way through the different classes starting with the ACU Star Championship. I will then, depending on my results, aim for the supersport 600, in 2007. I will eventually hope to race in the BSB. This has been a life long dream of mine.”
Laura will be entering the ACU Star Championship this season, on Junior Super-Stock 600. This is a competition for anyone aged 16-26.
The ‘ACU Star Championship’, is cost controlled, competitive and accessible racing, aimed at both existing club racers and new comers to the sport, especially young talent. The new ACU Star Championship aims to be the ultimate Club Championship in the UK.
Running over 7 rounds at major UK venues like Brands Hatch, with the final round at the British Superbike meeting at Silverstone, each round will include free practice, timed practice for grid positions and then a single race.
The focus of the new Star Championship is youth development. Following the success of the ACU Academy, launched in 2000, and most recently in the ACU Academy Cup, there can be no doubt that targeted investment in youth produces top riders.
All riders registering for the series will be automatically entered into the ACU Academy and be invited to all Academy seminars and test days.
At least one test day has already been booked for 2006 and seminars on Sports Psychology, media skills and diet and fitness are being scheduled for the pre season; Affordable, competitive racing, on a level playing field with the full support of the ACU Academy.
MAG Sport is supporting Laura in her quest to race at British Super Bike level and wishes her all the best for the 2006 season in her first step to reach her goal.
