JOEY DUNLOP FOUNDATION, STAFFORD CLASSIC BIKE SHOW
I was very privileged to be asked by the Joey Dunlop Foundation if I would be available to assist Richard “Milky” Quale and Graeme Quirk at the Stafford Classic Bike Show, by helping to sell raffle tickets to help raise money for the Joey Dunlop Injured Riders Fund.
The Joey Dunlop Injured Riders Fund was established in 2001 in order to raise enough money to build a disabled lodge on the Isle of Man. The lodge will provide accommodation for disabled riders and visitors who go to the Island and at present have limited facilities in which to stay with little or no provisions for wheelchairs etc.
The Manx Government have allocated a plot of land in the vicinity of the Grandstand and donated it to the Foundation. The main source of income for the Foundation is through their “Tombola Bike” which this year is a beautiful Honda SP1, painted specially for the Foundation as a replica of the SP1 which Joey rode to glory in the 2000 Formula 1 TT.
The Stafford Show was the launch of the new bike which Milky had only collected on Friday 23rd from John Harris who himself was a long-term sponsor of Joey Dunlop. Even at the classic show the brand new SP1 was drawing lots of attention and over the two days we raised a very credible £1200 towards the fund.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who bought raffle tickets and especially the show organisers who didn’t charge the foundation for the use of the stand and had it all prepared when Milky arrived with the bike.
Ron Haslam, who is guest of honour at the Joey Dunlop Foundation annual dinner, will draw the winning raffle ticket on November 13th 2004.
