MPS RACING - WEC PREVIEW - January 2007
Wednesday the 31st of Jan saw Mick, Marnie, Simon and Lee head off to San Remo in Italy for the preview of the World Championships, not knowing what to expect we got there in good time.
The event was due to start Thursday afternoon but nothing happened till Friday morning which gave us a little longer to relax in the sun and explore some of the beautiful town of San Remo .
Friday morning all the teams assembled in a car park by the sea all the major teams had lorries awnings, mechanics and bikes prepared for each of their riders. We however had a 3 metre awning and 1 bike kindly supplied by CH Husqvarna decked out in our colours with Motul, Talon, NTB and MAG decals.
We may be the smallest team in the paddock but we were there giving 100%!
The boys had there photos taken then the bike and the rest of the team had photos taken hopefully the publicity we get from this will help promote our sponsors for this year and attract more for next season.
After lunch at the yacht club where we were welcomed as a new team to WEC everybody headed out of town about 5 kilometres up the coast to a special test set out for the riders to show off new bikes and kit.
We were spectators as the bike we had was not raced prepped but it was good to watch the worlds best riders playing without the pressure of a time clock!
After that was over our work was done and we retired to the bar (Si & Lee no alcohol)
Saturday we had the plane to catch in nice at 14.00 which gave us time to visit Monaco, saw Paula Radcliffe out training and gave her a wave and picked a new yacht out from the marina .
That was were the holiday ended our plane was delayed for 2 hours then diverted from Liverpool to east midlands , then a 2 hour coach ride up to Liverpool in the fog to collect lees van then down to the snowrun in Wales where we were to meet Dave Scott and Edd in the camper.
Unfortunately they had a puncture and had to call on the help of D3 rider Tom Sager who came to there assistance ( thanks Tom ).
It was a long day but we all met up and arrived at the snowrun at mid night.
SNOWRUN
Bright sunny and bloody freezing we woke to find Gavin and Lisa parked next to us and Alan Wakley and Wyn not far away so the whole team together for our first time card Enduro.
Simon, Gavin, Edd, and Mick away no problems but Lee stopped with an iced carb loosing him 20 minutes not deterred he caught up the riders on his min and rode round for practice (top man).
After 2 of the 3 tests Tom led Si by 7 seconds, all down to the last test pressure was on and Tom crashed giving Si the win while Tom held on to second.
Gavin in only his 3rd Enduro finished with a silver with 12th Edd in his first Enduro also got silver and 25th, Mick having not ridden since New Zealand in November finished 2nd in vets class
All in all not a bad day with Si getting his first and certainly not his last win!
