BUSY WEEKEND FOR AUTO 66

Issued 3rd May 2007

The May Bank Holiday sees the Festival of Speed at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough with Saturday and Sunday, 5th & 6th of May devoted to the Yorkshire Speed Hill Championship for bikes and cars.

Other championships running in conjunction with the event is the ACU British Hill Climb Championship, Longton & District Motor Club Hill Climb Championship and the Morgan Sports Car Club Parc Ferme Speed Championship.

The two days has attracted over 160 entries, which has resulted in the Auto 66 having to start practice earlier than scheduled. The start will now be 9am for practice followed by the timed runs running to approximately 5pm each day.

On the following day The Ian Watson Spring National Road Races takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May.

This year the emphasis is on up and coming riders giving them a stepping-stone to their international licence. With the top men on duty at the North West 200 new up a coming names will be seen on the rostrum.

The riders tipped for success are Chester le Street’s David Bell entered on three Kawasaki machines, a 600, 650 and 1000cc. Ian Armstrong from Sowerby Bridge is another rider to keep an eye on.

Ian will be testing his machines out for the IOM TT where he is tipped to be in the top 6. He will also be riding in the Auto 66 Club team whilst in the Isle of Man. The dark horse will be Keith Pringle from Hetton-le-Hole on his 600 CBR Honda and 1000 ZXR Kawasaki.

Making the journey over from Northern Ireland is Mount specialist Dwyer Agnew, who will be hoping to take the Ian Watson Trophy back across the Irish Sea at the end of the day.

The 400 race has attracted a good entry including Anita Buxton, who will be making only her second appearance at Oliver’s Mount.

Anita from Hertfordshire will be stopping off at Oliver’s Mount to ride her Kawasaki on route to Stranraer to catch the ferry to Ireland for the North West 200.

The Formula 2 sidecars always produce good racing at Oliver’s Mount and this meeting will be no exception with Nicky Crowe, last year’s TT winner, coming over from the Isle of Man to ride his Honda backed LCR machine.

At the last meeting at Scarborough Nigel Connole was the man to beat and he is currently in the top three of the British Championship, but with riders of the calibre of Conrad Harrison, Eddy Wright, Greg Lambert, Dave Wallis, Tony Thirkell and Dougie Wright racing will be very tight.

Making their first appearance will be Robin and Annette Daykin, who have a long trip from the north of Scotland to rider their Windle Kawasaki.

Although they have never raced the full circuit at Oliver’s Mount they are no strangers to the Scarborough parkland circuit having competed in many hill climb events over recent years.

Practice commences at 9am with the first race at 1pm.

Admission for adults is £15, which includes a programme and free admission to the paddock. Parking and children under 15 accompanied by an adult is free.
