MAG Sport “MAG Trax Track Day” Mallory Park

22nd August 2006

The MAG Sport Track day at Mallory Park turned out to be an awesome day for riders.

Nothing better than waking up the morning of a track day than having the sun shining through the curtains...bikes ready, vans packed..Mallory Park here we come.

Arrive at the Leicestershire circuit just in time for a quick cup of tea and signing on. Then it's the usual track briefing about the days itinerary and warning flags.

The novices get to stay behind for their own briefing where the instructor can run over more of the basics (a good idea that more track day companies should do).

Time for the novices to go out...just 3 laps to get the feel of riding on a track and find their feet.

I remember my first time and it can take a while to get use to using the whole track...then with the instructor keeping a

good pace they go back out to finish the session.

Usually track days have 3 groups but just 2 today so the intermediates and fast groups out together. I try and start steady without getting carried away but the fast boys are starting quick today but I let them go. plenty of time so no need to scare myself yet.

The rest of the morning goes fine.....not many interruptions for crashes and we break for lunch...when I spot Michael Rutter British Super Bikes and Stobart Motorsports rider outside the canteen having his picture taken with a couple of MAG sponsored riders nice to see him come down and lend his support.

With lunch out of the way and a steady first session after lunch it's time to pick up the pace....the fast boys are still quick but now I'm trying to stay with them and over taking some of the ones that over took me this morning.

The rest of the afternoon just flies by....a good sign that we're all having fun and something strange happens....for the first time on a track day I have to fill up for petrol twice then I look and the trip setting and I've done nearly 200 track miles unbelievable.

An open track signals that it’s the last session of the day those who want to can have one last blast and the those that started out novices at the beginning of the day were all going pretty quick at the end.

With the sun setting and the van packed it was time to leave which is a shame because it has been a well organised and brilliant da.

If MAG have another count me in.

Missed the day and would like to attend any future MAG Sport Track days, contact MAG Sport with your details.
