Help The Trust To Help You
Posted 20th June 2008
The IAM Trust is currently half way through a £50,000 research project aimed at creating safer crash barriers for we motorcycle riders. The project is progressing well, but more data is needed on real world collisions with barriers.
We are therefore appealing to you riders to help us build up a true picture of what goes on. Have you or any rider you know had an accident with a crash barrier? If so, do please tell us about it. Details that we would particularly like include: A description of what happened
What the purpose of the journey was (e.g. leisure, commuting)?
What type of motorcycle was being ridden?
The manoeuvre prior to the collision
The weather and visibility
Was the support post/barrier hit directly or as a consequence of the crash?
Was another vehicle involved?
Was the crash barrier on the nearside or offside of the road?
Was the barrier a wire rope or Armco type?
What were the injuries and their severity?
Was the rider wearing protective clothing and a helmet?
How could the accident have been avoided?
As a motorcyclist, do you have any other observations about crash barriers?
Please help if you can. Any information you can provide will be kept in strictest confidence, and will help to make your riding safer in the future. Please e-mail info@iamtrust.org.uk or write to IAM Motoring Trust at:
