Racing Legends And Youngest Ever GP Winner Due To Attend The NEC
Issued 20th November 2008
A star rider line-up that spans all ages and racing classes will be appearing at The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, which kicks off next week at the Birmingham NEC.
The Show, which runs from 28th November- 7th December, will host riders and champions from the World of MotoGP, World Superbikes, British Superbikes and the Isle of Man TT.
Riders will be making time for interviews, signing sessions and the ever popular lunchtime ‘GAS Question of Bikes’ quiz on the Blackhorse Stage in Hall 2.
The ever popular quiz is hosted by BBC MotoGP commentator Steve Parrish in the Arai Entertainment Zone.
Potential top billing is MotoGP star and acclaimed musician, James Toseland, who will perform with his band Crash on the Yamaha promotional truck.
Toseland, who won the World Superbike crown in 2004 and 2007, has been making waves in his debut season in MotoGP.
His Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP race bike will be on display at the show alongside the similar machine of 8 times World Champion Valentino Rossi.
Crash will be performing on Saturday 29th November, Saturday 6th December and Sunday 7th December. James Toseland will also be making solo piano appearances on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th December.
Following in James’ steps is a trio of 125GP riders including Scott Redding who this year became the youngest ever GP winner at 15 years old, and amazingly the first British winner of a home GP in 35 years!
Scott is joined by fellow top flight 125 racers Bradley Smith and Danny Webb. Scott has also recently been elected as a finalist for the BBC Young Sports Personality Awards.
Riders who definitely fall into the ‘legends’ category include American GP hero Randy Mamola who logged an impressive 57 500GP podiums despite being involved in some of the biggest crashes of all time!
Two other big names are multi-World Superbike Champions Carl Fogarty and Troy Corser the Australian racing ace.
Other past-masters include multi-British Superbike Champions James Whitham and Niall Mackenzie, John Reynolds and ‘Rocket’ Ron Haslam. James and Niall will be appearing every day hosting the ‘TWO/Visordown All Star Forum’ Stage activities.
Winner of 22 GPs, Italian racer Marco Melandri will be at The Show on the final day (7th December) making a rare UK appearance.
Round the World bike adventurers Charley Boorman and Nick Sanders will be on hand to discuss their respective journeys and fans can see their well-weathered machinery!
The British Superbike Championship is well represented with top riders including new GSE Yamaha riders Leon Camier and James Ellison, HM Plant Honda’s Glen Richards, new Crescent Suzuki signing Sylvain Guintoli plus riders moving on to World Superbikes; Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow.
The Isle of Man TT will be showcasing their star-studded 2009 rider line-up on TT Day, Saturday 6th December, including road racing heroes John McGuiness, Steve Plater, Guy Martin, Cameron Donald and Bruce Ansty.
Finlay McAllan, Managing Director of MCI Exhibitions, said: “We’ve got a top line-up of both young racers and legends from all over the world and have managed to spread their appearances over the whole duration of the show, so we’re really happy.”
