CJ Riders Fund - Summer Update
Issued 12th August 2008
The CJ Riders Fund has proved to become a vital part of the British Superbike series, having provided the X-ray machine at the start of 2007.
2008 has seen the Chris Jones Riders Fund supply the BSB medical centres with three physiotherapists (www.backontrackphysio.org) who attend every British Superbike round.
An ice machine for a permanent supply of ready-made ice for riders injuries, three radiologists who are in control of the X-ray machine plus we are currently testing out two ultra sound machines to detect any internal injuries the riders may have suffered - please see the rider quotes on our new website - www.cjnine.com
Working hard to continue to raise funds, the CJ Team have now bought a stand which is prominent at every British Superbike round, plus they also recently attended the Moto GP and BikeFest at Donington Park.
They are now looking forward to the rest of the season at British Superbikes and also the World Superbikes at Donington Park.
Gaining the support from various companies within the BSB circle including Motorcycle Racer Magazine, which can be purchased from the CJ Stand and also merchandise from Bike-it who have supplied us with a number of items to sell with proceeds going towards the Fund. The new U-tag (http://www.u-tag.co.uk) project is going very well and the awareness is now being raised within the British Superbike series and for just £20.00 this essential bit of kit can save lives. Based in credit card format or on a dog tag, U-tag is a simple but effective way of storing vital medical information and can be used for all bike riders plus those who may suffer with medical conditions such as allergies, epilepsy and diabetes - for more information see www.cjnine.com Other projects are going well and now the Fund have set up a dedicated Just Giving site - www.justgiving.com/cjrf whereby individuals can make donations directly to the Fund and people can also set up their own fund raising activities and generate sponsorship via the Just Giving site.
Ongoing projects include the sponsored row (http://www.justgiving.com/tonycreaney), set up by the Royal Marines, a 2400KM (1500-miles!) row will start on September 21st and riders from the BSB paddock are all hoping to attend and do a stint of rowing.
Kenny Gilbertson's London Marathon Just Giving site (http://www.justgiving.com/kennygilbertson) will be collecting money until the end of August, Kenny successfully completed the marathon back in April.
Mark Ryder will be doing the Vitruvian Half Ironman competition in September and has set up a Just Giving Site for the CJ Fund, www.justgiving.com/markryder1 The CJ Riders Fund have just successfully run their third Bowling Night at Rotherham and raised a healthy £5400 on the night. Various riders showed their support for the night and thanks must go to the following for coming, Karl Harris, Simon Andrews, Tom Sykes, Leon Haslam, Gary Mason, Billy McConnell, Dave Johnson, Sam Lowes, Julian Ryder, Jack Burnicle, James Whitham, Sam Warren, James & Dean Ellison plus all others who attended the evening. The Fund once again have some exciting projects in the pipeline, the World Superbikes (Donington Park), the Cadwell Park Cycle Race (Sunday 24th August) Brands Hatch Auction (Saturday 11th October). Plus the annual CJ Riders Fund Dinner, which proved a huge success in 2007, this will be staged at the Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham once again on Saturday 6th December, the final weekend of the NEC International Motorcycle Show. We are continuously looking for items to be donated for various CJ Auctions/Raffles that we hold throughout the year, if you have anything that you think may be suitable please contact me on carlyrathmell@yahoo.co.uk Once again, even though times are quiet and hard the CJ Riders Fund would like to thank everyone for their continued support, hard work and dedication to the Fund and we hope that it will continue to go from strength to strength. **All the members of the Chris Jones Riders Fund wish to send their thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Craig Jones, who sadly lost his life in a racing accident at Brands Hatch World Superbikes, he lost his fight for life on August 4th 2008.
