CJ Riders Fund - Cadwell Success - £8'000 Raised!
Issued 26th August 2008
The CJ Riders Fund had an extremely successful weekend at Cadwell Park this weekend and from something so tragic as the loss of Chris Jones at Cadwell in 2005 something so good has managed to come from it.
This weekend at Cadwell the CJ Fund paid for the use and facilities of an Air Ambulance, which was based trackside for the three days of the events and was used on three occasions over the weekend. The CJ Fund this weekend managed to raise a massive total of around £8'000, which will in turn go into the funding of new safety and medical equipment for the British Superbike Championships.
This weekend at Cadwell, the Fund ran its third annual Cycle Race, which proved a massive success. With nearly 300 competitors for the Cycle Race and the majority been dressed up in various attire, out on the track were spotted Scooby Doo, two smurfs, Superman, various men in the CJ Lycra suits, the Stig, Wonder Woman (man!!), plus the Centurion Chariots, also riders such as Steve Plater, James Haydon, Dan Cooper, Tommy Bridewell, James Westmoreland, Nicole McAteer, Peter Hickman, Chris Martin, Ben Wilson and eventual winner Cal Crutchlow all managed to compete in some shape or form, some, Cal taking it more seriously than others! Alan at Bike Channel sent us some very amusing footage which can be viewed at the following link: - Here Eurosport also covered the event and gave it some good coverage during the live showing on Monday.
The CJ Girls and helpers were busy collecting money from the massive crowd that had come to watch at the top of the Mountain section and at the end it was once again deemed a huge success. Cal Crutchlow eventually took the overall honours from former Olympic Gold Medallist James Cracknell and former racer Alan Green.
Jayne Wright and Michelle English won best fancy dress as the smurfs and the Centurion Charioteers won best spirit of the race. All at the CJ Fund are extremely grateful to all the people that took part in the race, all the people that helped organise it and for all the kind fans who emptied their pockets and put money towards this very worthy cause.
