“We started off with 72 children on the register and finished with 66, which shows their commitment for the project"

"This is the fifth year for Moto KL and the second season at the Norfolk Arena’s special race circuit which is inside the speedway track."

"Racing was held once a fortnight on Thursdays and the main MHB Services League was won by Dusty Devils, while the Novice Team championship was won by Right Direction B."

"The racers are aged from 11 to 16."

There was special thanks from Shan to the four main sponsors – Keith Chapman of Norfolk Arena, Phil Hayton of Westcotec, Maurice Buck of MHB Services, and Trevor Baird of MAG Sport.

How often can you say that about a motor sport event for youngsters?

But that’s what Moto-KL is all about, the mini-moto racing project based at the Norfolk Arena, the home of Lynn Speedway.

MOTO-KL has been running for some five years and provides the opportunity for young people aged 11 to 16 to race the 50cc mini-moto bikes.

Shan Tedder, the co-ordinator, said: “Yes, it is all entirely free – the race gear, helmets, use of the bikes and the track time.”

“The only cost for parents is to get the youngsters to the stadium for each race session.”

“It really is an excellent initiative, giving the youngsters a safe and legal venue to ride at, it’s great fun, it teaches them teamwork, they can attain personal achievements and learn a new skill.”

“What more can you ask for today?”

“We do encourage parents to stay at each session and give their support to the youngsters.”

This year’s competition ran from the beginning of April to the end of October, meeting once a fortnight on Thursdays, to race on a specially marked circuit inside the speedway track.

There are different sessions for novices and the more experienced riders.

Shan is already looking ahead to the 2009 season which will again be on Thursdays at the Norfolk Arena.

Parents wanting more info or youngsters interested in signing up should contact Shan on 01366 380293 and she will explain what’s involved.
