MOTO - KL 2008 - Time For Racing

Time For Racing – April 2008 - Pictures Below - ROUND ONE (3 April 08) of THE 2008 MHB SERVICES LEAGUE

First The Preparation

Prep Day Simon MollettIt has been exciting April and its only the 4th!

Prep Day – Simon Mollett had his work cut out prepping 8 bikes, with another 3 donated ‘Instructor’ bikes yet to be completely overhauled.

3rd April saw 6 teams competing in Round One of The MHB Services League.

One team was ‘otherwise occupied’ – and failed to show – so it was a 5 team competition.

This is always the problem in the school holidays were you would think that youngsters would be available, but it is usually the time when families take annual holidays.

The Committee have ruled that if a team is a member(s) short, the team will decide which team rider gets to ride twice (or more).

Team MHB Services have delighted the League sponsors (MHB Services) by taking the lead in Round One.

Already four riders down, Michael Ecclestone was injured in his 2nd race, leaving Carl Brooks to ride four races – in which he took 1st place in each – acquiring 24 points alone for his team.

We have one girl rider in the whole league – who rode well, and looked absolutely gorgeous in her pink boots!

Amman Chaudre, through various circumstances, did not get to ride with his Team – Dusty Devils last season, so arrived a complete novice.

Being a very fast learner, after some one to one tuition, he opted to take part in the race. He gained points, and a skinned arm, but retained his sunny disposition!

Practice rides, and races over, all the riders got to have a play – with a free session period to tune their skills.

Simon Mollet (Technical) .. Dave Cusdin (Treasurer) and Daniel Horspole (Norfolk Arena)

A new system of rider management at the track has been put in place, with thanks to Simon Mollett for his input on this.

The team captain system is working very well, and the MAG Sport caps worn only by team captains and the youth reps were a huge success.

MAG Energy are running 3rd in Round One, with only one point separating them from 2nd place.

MAG Sport J’s had two riders stand down on 2nd April 2008, but the team were unfazed, and gained 4th place. There is a waiting list of experienced riders, so two new team members will be brought in for Round Two on the 1 May 2008.

4th April’s weather was kind to us, and after 6 months of cancelled attempts to white line a permanent track – today it actually happened.

The problem was that conditions had to be exactly right – the painted lines – such as are painted onto the highways are normally laid on tarmac.

As our track is a concrete base, a special machine had to be brought in from Milton Keynes. This machine ‘tacks’ a line of tarmac upon which the white paint is laid.

It is an expensive process, the cost of which has been shared by Norfolk County Council, the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, and Moto KL. A permanent track will make a huge difference, firstly in safety - making the track much more defined, and will save a lot of time as often the track had to be relined at each session as the chalk based paint was easily erased.

The Points League has been renamed The MHB Services League after MHB Services offered to sponsor the 18 league trophies (3 teams of 6 riders placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd), and the Team MHB Services Best in Team trophy. This is in addition to their monthly sponsorship towards fuel costs. For those who don’t know MHB erect and maintain street lighting.

The end of season race day in October has been renamed The Westcotec Series. Westcotec, who are a electronic sign traffic control company – the signs that flash at you to slow down, or alert you that you are exceeding the speed limit, sponsored Moto KL in 2007.

For 2008, Westcotec have offered to sponsor all the 29 trophies and 72 medals for the end of season race day costed at some 300, and a Westcotec team.

MAG Sport have funded 2 new bikes – which are to be used as cover bikes during breakdowns (see pic)

I am astounded at the generosity of everyone, and their belief in this project. Many many thanks.

A Novice Practice Session is to take place on 17 April 2008. These sessions have been split into a one team/one hour session – which will allow the team to have a intensive training session as a team, which we hope will strengthen the team spirit.  Four team / one hour sessions will take place from 4pm to 8pm. Once the team has completed their training session, they are free to leave, or stay and watch another team train.

The local press will be attending Round Two, and possibly making another video.

The AGM saw only three changes to the Officer positions. Sue Payne of the Borough Council resigned as secretary, and Nik Samson, Editor of 100% Biker took over as Committee Administrator (renamed from Secretary). Norfolk County Council Children Services Officer – Dave Rodwell was elected as our Child Protection Officer. Colin Perris was elected Trackside Protection Officer.
