MPS Racing Husqvarna’s Si Wakely claimed his first ever overall double British Enduro Championship victory at the second round of the 2007 BEC series, the Tywi Enduro held in Pontrhydfendigaid, West Wales on 28th – 29th July 2007.

Current E2 Junior European Enduro Championship leader topped day one by less than one second before going on to beat former four-time world champion Paul Edmondson by four seconds on day two.

In the Enduro 1 class Husky Sport rider Daryl Bolter placed second in class on day one before winning day two and claiming a creditable third overall aboard his WR125.

With continued bad weather resulting in a second consecutive wet BEC event the hard working Tywi organisers put on a great event, which despite featuring just one timed special test included several tight time checks. For Wakely the event went perfectly as the MPS Racing Husqvarna rider claimed victory on day one by less than one second.

Winning the opening test Si then placed second on test two, which meant the day’s third and final test would be all important. Remaining on time during the day despite the event’s numerous tight checks Si went on to post the fastest overall time on the final test and topped day by the narrowest of margins to claim his first overall Championship class win.

For Daryl Bolter an overly cautious start to the first day stopped the former European Enduro Champion topping the Enduro 1 class results. Placing a close second in class on the day’s second test Bolter than topped the third and final test but wasn’t quite able to do enough to close the gap on Greg Evans and finished second, just two seconds adrift.

Day two started in the best possible way for Wakely as he topped the day’s opening two tests, which helped him open up an important gap at the top of the overall Championship class results. Going on to finish less than one second behind Paul Edmondson on the third and fourth timed tests Si did enough to finish four seconds clear at the top of the overall results and in doing so claimed victory on his WR250, just as he had on day one.

The second day was also a good one for Daryl Bolter who topped the Enduro 1 class and in doing so claimed an impressive third overall aboard his WR125. Having started day one too cautiously Bolter attacked each of the second day’s four tests posting the fastest E1 class time in each to claim a comfortable class win.

After two rounds of the 2007 British Enduro Championship Si Wakely provisionally leads the Enduro 2 class with Daryl Bolter tied on points with Greg Evans for the lead in the Enduro 1 class.

The next round of the ’07 BEC series again takes place in Wales with the Crychan Enduro on August 11th & 12th.

Si Wakely: “I’m made up to have got my first overall British championship win. The Tywi went really well for me and was a really good event. The tight checks were really enjoyable but there were some really soft spots in the forest. The first day started well by winning the first test but after winning the second tests I got beaten on the third, which dropped me to second overall. I needed a good last test, which I got, and just managed to win the day.

“Day two was even better for me. I was really pleased with the way I rode. The first test was really slippery due to the overnight rain so I decided to wait before starting, which worked well. The test rutted up a bit more than on the first day, which suited me, and I didn’t make any mistakes at all really. The whole event went well for me, it’s great to have finally won an overall.”

Daryl Bolter: “It was a really good weekend for me. It was disappointing that there was only one test but the club did a great job with the course with some great going and a really enjoyable tight check. I knew that because there was just one test that I couldn’t afford any mistakes and I rode too cautiously on the first lap on day one, and lost too much time to Greg Evans. I couldn’t pull it back so I finished second.

“On day two I just went for it and made no mistakes and rode much better. I wish I’d rode like I did on day two on Saturday. I didn’t think about crashing and put in good tests all day. The club really did a great job with some great going. There were some really deep holes on the course but the 14 minute tight check was great – the check times were perfect.”
